Happy New Year's Day - we celebrated it by popping in to see Mormor and Morfar. They opened a lovely bottle of bubbly and we raised our glasses to see in the new year.
We've been so busy so far this year with one thing or another that I've not had time to do any blogging...sorry!!
This year has not started well for us Poulters as on our first day back at work Simon was told that he will probably be made redundant as they're going to remove two large machines (which are the ones he does all the developments for). It wasn't unexpected news but still a shock to us and it's sad to think the place where he has worked for 16 years and where I worked for 6 years and actually the place where we met will no longer be a part of our lives. Last week the workforce agreed and signed the severance package which is more than the statutory minimum but only just! He's been very busy updating his CV (with the help our friend Hope as she is a HR manager for a large french bank in London...thanks love!!) and has been sending it out to some of his contacts in the industry so we're keeping our finger, toes and eyes crossed that something will turn up quickly as we really love our life here in Upchurch in our lovely home! I've said to him on many occassions though, that Thomas and I will follow him anywhere...and we mean it!
My parents had a bit of a scare a few weeks ago now as my dad woke up one morning with the left side of his face all droopy and he couldn't blink his eyes or move his mouth properly. We all thought the worst and that maybe he'd suffered a mini stroke in the night, but luckily the doctor said it wasn't (PHEW!!) and that it was Bell Palsy. He had to take lots of tablets for a couple of weeks and they've done the trick as he is back to normal now.
The nursery that Thomas goes to have asked if we'd like him to go up to the next room as of week after next. They usually put them up to that room at 2 years but he is more than ready now and he absolutley loves when they go in there for an hour at the beginning and end of each day. The room is a lot larger with many more activities to do and also a lot more children to play with.
He is talking a lot more these days trying to copy nearly everything we say and do, he is just so sweet and I miss him so very much but I'm happy in that I know that two days a week he is with his grandparents who adore him (and he adores them too!!) and three days a week he's happy at nursery. We try to make the most of our time together at weekends along with doing all the household chores and cooking food for him for the following week.
Tomorrow we're going to see Simon's cousin Sue and her two lovely boys Alex and Matt. We've not seen very much of them since I've been back at work so we're popping down for a spot of lunch. We're thinking of them such a lot and wish they lived nearer so we could see more of them.
Here are some recent pictures:
