Today my mum and I took Thomas to have the skin prick tests done at a clinic in Tonbridge. We told the doctor all about his allergic reactions to the foods and then she decided which items to test for, there were 9 in total. She made 9 small marks on his back with a biro and then beside one marker she put a drop of oil containing egg (for instance) then made a tiny prick on the skin. The ones I can remember are wheat, dairy, egg, nuts, dog fur and he is allergic to dairy products and egg. My mum is so pleased that it's not dog fur so it means we can now go to her house more often....very good news!! The doctor will send my GP a full report on today's findings and ask her to issue me with the Epipens for anaphylaxic shock which we will have to carry everywhere. The company that produces them also supply dummy pens so I can show the family how to use them correctly. So what does this mean for our special little guy? Well we'll have to take him to see someone to get a proper diet sorted out to ensure he's getting all the vitamins and nutrients that a growing lad needs, until then he's sticking to home cooked veg and fruit. The doctor said that as he's not having meat, dairy products and pasta etc that it could be the reason why he still wakes every 3-4 hours at night for milk.
Oh well, at least we know what he is allergic to and what to avoid.
